I watched your shadow depart as you left, turning off all the lights in your wake. I listened as your footsteps retreated from my door, I felt the need to jump out my bed and stop you, but frozen I was. I had no heart to stop you, to tell you to accept the things you reject. I had no heart to tell you to imprison your ambition just to be comfortable. Stay for one more day and one more night. Stay content in misery as it loves company. Stay within the background as it is safe. To gaze into your dying eyes, I had no heart to say turn back. So go forth in the night in secret without me.
